16 Events Happening Over The Holidays In Kelowna

    Holiday Light SceneThe holiday season is once again upon us. For some this can be a stressful time, but for many of us, it is a special time to share with loved ones and enjoy the magic of the season.

    Whether you are looking for a little inspiration this holiday season or are just looking for the best events in Kelowna to help you enjoy all that the season has to offer, you will find that Kelowna has plenty. The area is home to numerous light ups, craft fairs, shows and other holiday related activities and events.

    Kelowna Holiday Lights

    House With Holiday LightsFew experiences are as magical in Kelowna during the holiday season as that of the Annual Light Ups and Holiday Light Tours.

    A great way to kick the holiday season off, there several annual light ups that you can attend in the Kelowna region. The light ups often include a variety of other activities and entertainment and are sure to brighten up your holidays.

    December 6th – Big White Light Up 

    Located at the Big White Village Centre, this light up kicks off the holiday season at the ski resort. The event begins at 6:30 pm and the light up follows at 7:00 pm with hot chocolate and roasted chestnuts being served. Click here for more information.

    December 7th – 25th Annual Downtown Kelowna Light Up

    The 25th Anniversary Light Up begins with a fun filled day starting at 11:00 am in Downtown Kelowna and includes numerous activities and entertainment (most are either free or by donation) such as ice skating, horse-drawn carriage rides, photos with Santa, cookie decorating, holiday movies, holiday crafts, petting zoo, face painting, live music, hot air balloon rides, street hockey and festive foods.     December 8 – Uptown Rutland Light-Up

    Located at Roxby Park, the festivities and light up run from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. A great event for the family, with a visit from Santa, entertainment, a kid’s craft table and hot chocolate and cookies will be available. Click here for more information.

    December 13 and 14 – 2013 Parade of Lights Bus Tour

    Enjoy the best holiday lights that Kelowna has to offer on the 2013 Parade of Lights Bus Tour. Watch from one of four double-decker buses will be running Friday & Saturday nights. Tickets can picked up at the Castanet Media or Q103 Studios for the cost of a non perishable food item, children’s toy or cash donation per ticket to help the needy families in the area during the season.  Click here for more information.

    December 15 – Second Annual Christmas Charity Light Tour

    View West Kelowna’s most spectacular lights aboard a comfortable 24 passenger bus with Distinctly Kelowna Tours. The charity light tour begins with hot chocolate and cookies at 5:30 pm from the Main Entrance of The Cove Lakeside Resort. A second tour will operate at 7:15 pm if the first tour sells out. Admission is a children’s toy or a suggested cash donation of $15.00 per person, with proceeds going to the Westside Community Food Bank. Click here for more information.

    Kelowna Holiday Shopping

    Full Stocking SketchThe numerous holiday markets and craft fairs are a fantastic time to get some of your holiday shopping done while supporting the many talented local artists and businesses. Often featuring hand crafted, one-of-a-kind items, you are sure to find unique and special items for yourself or to give to others during the holiday season.

    November 30th – “A Touch of Christmas” Fair

    Located at the New Life Church from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, the 5th Annual “A Touch of Christmas” Crafter and Vendors Fair features door prizes, silent auction, holiday refreshments, entertainment and 60 crafter and vendors tables selling a wide selection of goods.     December 7th – Christmas Artisan Gift Shop

    An all artisan fair, this event is a great chance to find the perfect handcrafted gift for that someone special. The fair is located at the East Kelowna Hall from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Click here for more information.

    December 14th and 15th – 3rd Annual Bottega Christmas Market & Art Show

    This two day holiday market and art show is located at the Bottega Farm Inn and Studio from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm each day with a minimum donation of a toonie. You will find a wide variety of local Okanagan artists and crafters as well as kid’s activities, live music and holiday foods and drinks. Click here for more information.

    Kelowna Holiday Shows

    Nutcracker BalletFor many, the holidays would not be complete without attending a local concert or show during the festive season. You will find a number of holiday classics as well as a couple of fun and friendly family shows.

    December 4th to 8th – The Kelowna Actors Studio Presents “Shrek The Musical”

    Based on the Oscar®-winning DreamWorks film, family’s can enjoy this show as dinner theatre, dessert theatre or come for just the show, located at the Kelowna Actors Studio. Click here for more information.

    December 6th to 8th – Living Nativity

    Located at Willow Park Church, this Living Nativity is performed 12 times over three days at various times. Each performance includes the four part, interactive show, a petting zoo and holiday goodies. Click here for more information.

    December 6th to 7th – The Nutcracker Ballet

    Experience this classical ballet and holiday favourite performed by the Canadian School of Ballet and located at the Kelowna Community Theatre. Click here for more information.

    December 6th to 8th – The Creekside Theatre Presents “The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe”

    December 17th to 21st – The New Vintage Theatre Presents “A Christmas Carol”

    Dog With Christmas PresentsAs well as the different light celebrations, shopping opportunities and shows, you will also find a large variety of assorted holiday events and activities over the next month to get you in the holiday spirit.

    November 22nd to December 24th – Winter Wonderland Ice Wine Tour

    This adult-only tour is the perfect opportunity to experience the region’s amazing ice wines. The tour includes transportation, Tour Guide, wine and ice wine tastings, snack and seasonal treat. Click here for more information.

    November 30th to December 1st – 4th Annual Winter Wonderland

    Located at the Arion Therapeutic Farm, this fun, family event runs from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm each day and includes a petting zoo, pony rides, tractor rides, Gingerbread Men decorating, face painting, holiday goodies and a visit from Santa. Click here for more information.

    December 11th – Holiday Pet Photo Shoot

    A great chance for pet owners to get a special holiday photo of their pets for a great cause. This fundraiser for the Okanagan Humane Society is located at the Centre for Arts and Technology, Digital Photography Studio. Click here for more information.
