Say it quietly, but the unofficial end of summer has arrived. All across Canada the kids go back to school tomorrow, and yes, that includes Kelowna.
Parents across the land will be wondering how they can help their children maximize their potential and get their homework complete with the minimum of fuss, so we thought we’d provide you with some tips on how to build the perfect homework station for your child.
Location, Location, Location!
This rings true when it comes to the Kelowna real estate market and it also rings true when it comes to setting up a homework station for your child. You’ll want to select a quiet, comfortable area of the home for your child’s homework station – the less distractions the better.
Comfort and Clarity is the Name of the Game
Provide your child with a clear and dedicated desk space, along with a comfortable chair and lamp. Give them the tools they need to get their work done as efficiently as possible. Working at the kitchen counter can be very distracting, but if they have a dedicated desk in a peaceful area of the home, this will certainly help to limit the distractions.
Utilize a Wall Clock and Wall Calendar
In this digital age, we carry calculators, calendars, clocks and so much more on our phones and while this is very useful, we recommend setting up a wall clock and wall calendar by your child’s work station. That way, if they’re simply looking for the due date of an assignment or the time, they can glance up at the wall and won’t be potentially distracted by other more interesting things on their device.
Keep the Space Decluttered and Organized
Pretty self-explanatory. Put the onus on your child to keep their space decluttered and organized. This will be good practice for them in later life for many work environments, and it will also make it easier for them to find things and ultimately focus.
