Dog Lovers, Rejoice! A Guide to Kelowna’s Off-Leash Dog Parks and Other Pet-Friendly Areas

While the city of Kelowna is full of parks and beautiful green spaces for people to relax, enjoy recreational activity or go for a walk, it can be a bit more difficult to find a place you can take your fuzzy friend for an off-leash adventure. If you’re looking for some places to enjoy some off-leash fun with your pet, look no further than one of these local parks.

Take Your Dog for a Swim at Cedar Creek Park

Located at 5200 Lakeshore Road in the Mission, this park is a great place to take your four-legged friend if he takes to the water like a fish. As the only dog park in Kelowna with access to the beach, this park features an outhouse as well as a disposable dog bag dispenser. Cedar Creek Park is also the only off-leash dog park in the city that is wheelchair accessible. In addition to a pebbly beach for swimming and walking, this park also features picnic areas where you can relax or play with your dog – but you’ll want to keep in mind that the northern end is also a nude beach!

A Natural Off Leash Park at Central Green

In the heart of downtown Kelowna, Central Green is the newest off leash park in the city of Kelowna where you can take your favourite animal friend. Located at the corner of Richter Street and Harvey Avenue, this is a park for big and small dogs alike and features a different park for each. A great place for your dog to roam free, the land in Central Green is kept natural and untamed – though it is still expected that any and all pets will be kept under the control of their respective owners. It’s also important to remember to use the dispenser bags that are located in the park to dispose of any waste.

A Park and a Hike at Knox Mountain Park

The dog park that is located on Knox Mountain is just inside the main gate of this green area. While it begins as a narrow pathway, it stretches out into a park that consists primarily of grass and a multitude of natural landscape areas. As the park is located on the mountain, it is a bit of an uphill climb to the get to the end of it – but the upper portion comes with a picnic area with tables and a beautiful view for those who don’t mind the hike! You can feel free to park at Royal View Drive and gain access to the top of the park this way or park at the base to make the trek.

Even beyond the bevy of green space in the city, there are numerous dog parks in Kelowna where your pet can enjoy some off leash fun. By following the simple rules of keeping your pet under control and picking up after them with the disposable bags available in each park, you and your favourite animal can have a great time at any of these off-leash areas!
