How to hire a Kelowna real estate agent – Seller’s Edition

    The B.C. real estate market is one of the hottest topics these days and as more people pack up and move to the Okanagan, you can expect that trend to continue. While the amount of information out there can be overwhelming, hiring the best real estate agent in Kelowna for your home and needs can make a world of difference when it comes to selling your home and reducing stress.

    Talk to a few different Realtors

    While it’s great that your friend’s sister is a Realtor, it’s still a good idea to talk to two or three different real estate agents before deciding who to list with. Even if you get a great vibe during your first interview, your runners up may have some great points or have the contacts you need to get you a better offer. You should also be prepared with a list of questions to ask your real estate agent.

    During the interview process, a good Realtor will also ask you questions about the property, your needs, your goals and expectations. Be honest with them and be respectful of their time as they may have other appointments to keep.

    Ask for referrals from your network

    No matter where you live, it seems that everyone know a Realtor. When asking your friends and family for referrals, be sure to also welcome feedback from people who may have had a negative experience with a real estate agent. Ask to hear from people who’ve worked directly with a real estate agent, as opposed to those who simply know one on an acquaintance level.

     

    Once you’re armed with your referrals, reach out to the agents on your list by phone or email. You may also want to select an agent or brokerage that isn’t on the list as a reference point. Note how long it takes to get a response and whether or not they communicate clearly.

    Ask the Realtor for references or reviews

    Don’t be afraid to ask a Realtor if they have any references or reviews available. While they may not hand you a phone number for a past client, they should have some fairly recent testimonials or reviews to pass on to you. If you’re considering working with a new Realtor, ask if the brokerage or broker has any reviews or references instead. Speaking of which…

    Don’t forget about the brokerage

    A brokerage is like the parent company or agency that a real estate agent works for. The brokerage typically provides support for their agents in the form of marketing, mentorship, lead generation office space, and other guidance as needed. Ask your Realtor about their brokerage and managing brokers. How often do they meet with their broker and what is their availability should the salesperson need additional guidance? What kind of support does the Brokerage offer to both the Realtor and you, the seller?

    Read the contract, sign and shake hands!

    Once you’ve decided on an agent that you feel comfortable with, be sure to thoroughly review the contract agreement and ask questions if there is anything you don’t understand. If everything looks great, sign on the dotted line and get ready to sell your house!
