Whether you’ve just entered the dating game, you’ve recently tied the knot with the partner of your dreams, or you’re approaching a milestone anniversary of marriage, what better time to affirm your love and affection than Valentine’s Day? Kelowna is regarded as one of the most beautiful and romantic communities in British Columbia, and you can expect it to offer something for every couple come February 14, 2014. Below are just some of the great events in Kelowna where you can celebrate the day of love.

Big White Ski Resort’s Valentine’s Day Activities

Big White Ski Resort is a romantic getaway throughout the winter, but Valentine’s Day is something special. The existing romantic atmosphere, from the majestic white peaks to the lush, fresh-white slopes to the cozy fireside dining and pub venues inside, sets the stage for a great date night. Valentine’s Day will include extra romantic activities and events, specially crafted with couples in mind. Don’t care for skiing or snowboarding? No problem. Besides the many resort amenities and restaurants, Big White is also home to the Happy Valley Day Lodge where every Tuesday and Friday night is games night, and that includes Valentine’s Day! A huge selection of giant board games is available for playing, and a Nintendo Wii system is connected to the big screen upstairs. This is a sure-fire hit for a playful way to wind down from the day’s adventures. Wii and games night starts at 7 pm.

Valentine’s Soiree With Delhi 2 Dublin

Delhi 2 Dublin is an eccentric, creative Canadian band that fuses together the unique sounds of Bollywood, Korean pop, fiddle, and contemporary prog-rock to craft their own special brew of great dance music. With a new album on the way, the band will be performing at the Mary Irwin Theatre of the Rotary Centre for the Arts (421 Cawston Avenue) at 7:30 pm. The Valentine’s Day Soiree will also feature Wild Son. What better way to rock your Valentine’s Day away than this all-ages show? Tickets are $18 in advance or $23 at the door.

    Belle Nuit d’Amour

For a more upscale Valentine’s Day experience, check out Opera Kelowna with its executive February 14 fundraising event, Belle Nuit D’Amour (Beautiful Night of Love). Proceeds will support the Karis Support Society in its mission to bring safe housing, life skills and training, and other support to women battling addiction and mental health issues throughout BC. The event includes custom cocktails, artisan candy, hors d’oeuvres, and a special opera concert featuring world-class singers. All of this happens at the romantic, exclusive Bottega Farm Inn and Studio for an unforgettable combination of class, art, and atmosphere. General Tickets are $125, while limited VIP Gift Suite tickets are $250. The event starts at 7:30 pm.

39 Steps by the Kelowna Actors Studio

If mystery and intrigue is more your lover’s forte, take that special someone out for a live performance of The 39 Steps, the theatrical interpretation of Hitchcock’s cinematic masterpiece. The romantic mystery, imported from the UK after winning multiple Tony and Drama Desk awards, comes to life with the skilful performances of just four actors portraying some 150 characters. A tongue-in-cheek roller coaster ride brought to you by the Kelowna Actors Studio, The 39 Steps is guaranteed to bring a few gasps and laughs to your Valentine’s Day. The show starts at 8 pm and tickets start at just $54.

Whether you’re playing video games, skiing, taking in fine opera, rocking to world-fusion tunes, or watching award-winning theatre, Kelowna is the place to be this Valentine’s Day. How will you celebrate?
