In this blog post, we’re profiling Kelowna’s KLO Middle School.
KLO Middle School strives to make learning a natural part of life for students. At KLO, students develop skills that will not only prepare them for high school but will set them up for success in all aspects of life. Critical thinking, innovation, teamwork, and diversity are key components of KLO’s learning philosophy, making it one of the best middle schools in Kelowna.
What is Unique About KLO?
KLO Middle School is School District 23’s only French immersion middle school. The student population at KLO is quite diverse: 52% of the students are French immersion program students, and many students from both public and private schools come from areas of Kelowna and the surrounding towns. The educators at KLO make it a priority to make students’ transition to middle school comfortable and welcoming, in order to set them up properly for learning.
Athletics and Other Extracurricular Activities
KLO is very proud to offer the Hockey Canada Skills Academy, which helps students develop knowledge and skills in the sport of hockey both on and off the rink. For students interested in local, national, and global issues, KLO offers the Community Action Leadership Team, which organizes fundraising initiatives. If students are interested in elite athletics, they are encouraged to take the Fitness & Conditioning course, where they will be guided to reach their best fitness levels. KLO is also very proud to offer the WIN Program (Whatever Is Needed) to provide individual support systems for at-risk students.
KLO also offers other athletic and recreational programs such as rugby, track & field, dance, and a special art summer program.
Why Should I Consider KLO?
KLO Middle School is a wonderful educational institution where students are encouraged to develop their potential as learners and leaders in the community. If you are considering a move to the Kelowna area and have children that will be attending middle school at some point, KLO is an excellent choice.
