It should come as no surprise that Kelowna is one of the most romantic cities in Canada. The stunning lake views, beautiful orchards and vineyards, and great beaches lend themselves to romance of the highest sort. Whether you’re in love, or just hoping to be, Kelowna offers some great places for dates that range from ideally romantic to adventurous. Read below to find ideas for any mood or couple.
Go Classy and Romantic at Mission Hill Winery
Mission Hill is somewhat of a crown jewel when it comes to activities in the Kelowna region. There are a couple of different ways you can use Mission Hill to your advantage when planning a date. If you’re on a budget, you can do one of their simple tours, which can cost as little as $15. Don’t let this low price devalue the event for you, though—the tour involves a short lesson on wine growing in the region, a peek into their wine cellars, and a wine tasting at the end. If you want to make the date extra special, take advantage of Mission Hill’s renowned restaurant. Overlooking the lake, the restaurant is known for its gourmet food. It is very popular, so make sure you book in advance. Lastly, if you’re looking for an evening activity during the summer, think of taking advantage of the outdoor amphitheater at Mission Hill and their slate of shows. Under the moonlight, these shows bleed romance.
Get Moving and Active on the Kettle Valley Railroad Hike
If you and your partner are a more adventurous type of couple, consider hiking or biking down the Kettle Valley Railroad. This original railroad is made of wood and winds through the hills behind Kelowna. It has great views and will take you into the area that was burned in the most recent fire that roared through Kelowna. While somewhat sad, this is also hauntingly beautiful, and quite the adventure. Pack a picnic and get out to enjoy the great outdoors!
See Mother Nature’s Beauty at the Knox Mountain Gazebo
This is a great place to catch the sunset. Hike, bike, or drive up Knox to take in all the natural beauty of the Okanagan Valley. From this viewpoint, you’ll be able to see both the city of Kelowna and down the lake in the opposite direction toward Vernon. Grab a bite to eat downtown before or after, or grab a coffee and bring it up to the gazebo with you.
Try Something New at Carmelis Goat Cheese Factory
This date is pretty outside the box, and definitely not for the faint of heart, but if you want to inject a little diversity into your usual date routine, head to the goat cheese factory. They make many varieties of goat cheese and gelato on location. You can sample the cheese and even take a tour (there are real goats here, so be prepared for farm smells). The tour costs only $5, and you’ll get to see the dairy plant, the aging station, and the milking station, which will give you a fairly comprehensive look into how cheese is made. At the end of the tour, you’ll also get to taste a platter of cheeses that were made on site.
Kelowna is full of amazing date ideas—from romantic dinners to active hikes to crazy things like goat cheese tasting. Enjoy the beauty of the city and the romance it breeds and fall in love in Kelowna.
